Man allegedly arrested for strangling a mother and daughter to death at Limpopo lodge

Limpopo – According to News24, a 29-year-old man believed to be from Bangladesh was apprehended in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon, this is in connection with the murder of his girlfriend and her baby which took place in Mokopane in Limpopo.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspect’s expected to appear in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on Friday for the alleged murders of Chantel Ash, 20, and her child, Tasneem, over a year.

According to the Ngoepe, the deceased’s bodies were found in the Maponya Lodge located outside Mokopane, on the 14th of January 2021. The suspect strangled them as their hands were tied behind their backs.

According to a statement by Ngoepe, the bodies of the deceased were found by the receptionist after being there for three (3) days as they arrived at the lodge around 19:00 on Tuesday, the 12th of January. They were supposed to logout the following day, the 13th of January as they rented a room for overnight, but the 14th of January found them there, which led to the opening of their room using a spare key by the receptionist.

“The following day, the receptionist was surprised to see no signs of the visitors and thought that they had left the premises. On Thursday, 14 January, she decided to go and open the rented room with the aim of cleaning it. Upon arrival, the receptionist was shocked to discover [the] woman and the [baby] strangled to death with their hands tied from the back and their bodies in a state of decomposition. These was no presence of the male who came to the lodge with the two deceased,” said Ngoepe.
