The successful candidate will join our system engineering team, you be involved in control and instrumentation systems using Siemens technology for a wide range of exciting applications such as,
- Mine Winders
- Conveyor Belt Systems
- Stacker Reclaimer
- Mills
- Integrated engineering of process plants
Mission/Function of the Role:
Responsibilities:
- Designs and engineers the system down to detail to satisfy the specified requirements of the customer. The System Engineer (SE) will also define and configures the products, components, and subsystems to be used. Has the ability to generate Input/Output list from P&ID’s., uses the basic design as source information to develop detailed solution, hardware design packs, for the integration to ensure the interaction of individual elements function as a unit. The System Engineer will be responsible for systems functionality.
- The designs to be completed are circuit diagrams, single line diagrams, cable blocks, list of components, layout drawings, terminal schedules, and list of drawings. The drawings are for: MCC’s, PLC’s, Network, Drives, Instruments, and Remote IO.
- The System Engineer may minister oversee the execution of manufacturing, procurement, logistics and other technical project functions. The SE will conduct Hardware Testing – Testing of the System at iFAT,CFAT and SAT to produce a fault free system, thereby minimizing the commissioning time.
- Commissioning – The System Engineer plays an important role during on-site commissioning (Hot & Cold commissioning) and will be required to lead, instruct, and supervise teams onsite, ensuring that the equipment and engineering meet the project and process requirements. Ensuring the documentation is marked up with the changes and modifications implemented during commissioning. The SE will ensure that the commissioned system fulfils the design criteria and scope of work to ensure a smooth client handover
- Quality Assurance – ensure that all Engineering work is done in accordance with Siemens & Customer Quality Assurance standards and procedures. This includes compliance with the OHSA requirements for safety standards. This may also involve understanding the requirements of the country, where the project is being executed.
- Knowledge Management – ensure the sharing of experience and know how via contributing to the knowledge management platform and mentoring of junior engineers and designers.
Qualifications and Experience
- Industrial Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering experience
- Industrial project experiences – This includes detail design in hardware activities and will include commissioning experiences. Knowledge of Mining, cement, oil and gas or other similar continuous process plant applications will be an advantage
- Experience in supervising electrical, control and instrumentation works on site
- Supervising of Sub-contractors
- Working on both Greenfield and Brownfield Projects
- Must be willing to travel to site for gathering information and or commissioning, for extended periods of time.
- Technical lead on a project or subproject. Focus on team and interaction skills
- Understands other cultures.
- Minimum qualification – National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Professional Registration with ECSA (advantageous)
- Practical site experience 3 years +.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of OHAS and MOHAS
- Knowledge of SANS 10142-1
- Knowledge of DIN standards
- Fluent in understanding drawings
- Strong C&I design skills, knowledge of selecting the correct instrumentation for the applications and able to generate loop drawings.
- Exposure to setting up instruments (i.e Flowmeters, levels (ultrasonic hydrostatic radar), pressure transmitters, wireless links, network equipment, pullkey systems, belt scales and protection etc)
- AutoCAD/ EPlan
- Understanding of and exposure to commonly used design standards and site requirements in the coal mining industry will be advantageous [WT(ERZ1]
- Exposure to commissioning conveyor belt systems will be advantageous
