Job Description
The mission/function of the role is to assist the trainees to obtain the relevant experience and competencies required in accordance with the SAICA training regulations in order to qualify as Chartered Accountants CA(SA), by means of exposure and rotations to our various business units and to produce competent professional accountants who make a positive contribution to the profession and society in which they work during their lifetimes.
What are the responsibilities of the role? (What does the SAICA Training programme involve?)
This is a Three-Year training programme to become certified as a Chartered Accountant (CA) with SAICA.
- Based in Accounting & Controlling.
- Rotation in other business divisions, business units or corporate support functions to gain core competencies.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Fully plans, prepares and consolidates balance sheet and profit or loss (P&L) statements and reports and financial statements according to relevant accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP, local standards etc.)
- Fully manages the audit process for the entities that have been allocated and reports timely and regularly to management on the progress and status of the audits and manages relationships with the Auditors
- Prepares reports for the Finance & Governance Committee (twice a year)
- Prepares reports for division or support function management
- Prepares reports for external stakeholders
- Prepares or collates supporting information and performs reviews for quarterly HBI reporting
- Analyse and evaluate assets and liabilities
- Contributes with analyses relevant for annual financial statements
- Co-operates with vendors, clients in reconciling the account status, on an accountable level
- Keeps abreast with changes of internal guidelines and external accounting standards, and prepares and presents training
- Review and update published circulars and guidelines owned by Accounting & Controlling
- Issue and implement new accounting guidelines
- Investigates project and other adhoc queries from the divisions and support functions
- Plan and prepare budgets and forecasts for corporate/business units
- Capture budgets and forecasts into SAP
- Allocate Infrastructure costs as per approved budget for distribution to divisions
- Provide support to colleagues in the other African countries or support related to the African countries
- Journal processing, goods receipting, CISS management and data maintenance support
- Support in non-routine transactions such as due diligence, mergers/acquisitions, business carve ins/outs
- Prepare or provide support to corporate/business units with respect to specialised reporting required by Head Quarter reporting
- Proactively understand and implement Financial Reporting Guidelines/Support Function requirements
- Ensures that all SAICA learning requirements technically and professionally are met within the relevant period
