A company that is pioneering the global climate change and biodiversity movement is looking for passionate graduates to join their 1-month internship restoration project. Suitable candidates will need to have a degree in Botany, Ecology, Horticulture, GIS, Information Technology, Conservation, Environmental Science or Engineering. The internship will be held at a private game reserve and accommodation and food will be provided for the duration of the 1-month training programme.
The internship programme offers participants exposure to spekboom planting and carbon crediting operations, covering baseline science, carbon stock measurement and operational management. They will gain valuable insights into implementing and managing eco-friendly ventures. The training includes theoretical exercises, practical work, discussions and hands-on experience in various operational aspects. Participants will undergo diverse assessments to evaluate skills in data quality, writing, problem-solving, people management and overall aptitude.
Responsibilities:
- Technical support (capture and maintain databases and basic analysis)
- Helping to set-up and monitor field experiments
- Monitor research activities and/or the implementation of project protocols
- Monitor and report on progress and outcomes of all active restoration programmes
- Conduct research
- Accompany project facilitators and researchers with field work
Requirements:
- Required Qualifications: A relevant Bachelor’s Degree in fields such as;-
- Botany,
- Ecology,
- Horticulture,
- GIS,
- Information Technology,
- Conservation,
- Environmental Science, or
- Engineering.
- A valid drivers license is a requirement.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, GPS devices, and other field equipment for data collection and mapping is necessary.
- Previous experience working on similar projects or engaging in related environmental conservation initiatives, even on a part-time or voluntary basis, will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with Carbon Markets would be beneficial, but it is not a mandatory requirement.
- Certifications in First Aid, CPR, or specialised training will be advantageous but not obligatory.
- The ability to work independently is essential.
- Physical fitness and adeptness in fieldwork are required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are expected.
- The candidate should demonstrate strong determination and high motivation.
- Exceptional attention to detail is necessary.
- Due to the remote location and challenging working and living conditions, resilience is crucial for this position.
