The promising young academic will be appointed in a full time, permanent position at lecturer level on a six-year developmental programme. In the first three years of the programme, the appointee is given a reduced workload to allow him/her to complete a doctoral degree, if not yet completed by date of appointment. In addition, the appointee is mentored and supported as s/he is introduced to academic life particularly with regard to his/her teaching, research and engaged scholarship responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide formal teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Microbiology.
- Present practical laboratory sessions to students in Microbiology and Biochemistry.
- Perform high quality research in the field of Microbiology.
- Supervise and provide consultation sessions for postgraduate students.
- Perform general administration duties as applicable at university level.
- Perform ad-hoc tasks as prescribed by the Head of the Department.
- Assist with the maintenance and operation of the department’s research facilities.
Inherent Requirements:
- A Master’s degree on NQF level 9 in Microbiology or closely related discipline passed with an average of 70% (attach academic record).
- Must enrol for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
Recommendations:
- A PhD in Microbiology or closely related discipline.
- Proven experience in presentation of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
- Provide evidence of published manuscripts or manuscripts in preparation that have the potential to be accepted for publication in accredited journals.
- A proven research record of published articles in ISi accredited journals.
- A proven record of accomplishment in under- and postgraduate lecturing or presenting practical laboratory sessions.
- Proven research expertise aligned to current research areas in Department.
