ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING (PROCESS) – UG
Closing Date: 22 April 2022
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc or B-Tech degree in Chemical Engineering with excellent academic record.
- Potential and willingness to learn and grow in a challenging work environment.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in sugar manufacturing / graduate program.
- Ability to study, write and pass SMRI Ten Week Course in Sugar Engineering.
- Ability to read and interpret technical reports, drawings/ diagrams, and instructions.
- Methodical and analytical approach to fault-finding/ problem solving skills.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Good interpersonal skills, ability and/or desire to fit in with the USM culture.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office & fluent with Excel).
Key Performance Areas:
- Adhere to the health, safety, and food safety standards.
- Attend training on FSSC 22000 system.
- Learn, develop and demonstrate skills on the sugar production process.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills to lead and manage shifts.
- Learn, develop and demonstrate skills to compile budgets from production plans and including labour, raw materials, operator maintenance, cleaning and consumables budgets.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills on planning and management of plant shutdowns.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills to lead and manage Continuous Improvement and
optimisation projects. - Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills to lead cross functional teams to implement projects.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills to use digital technology to improve production
performance. - Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills to use digital technology to improve operator
performance. - Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills on good customer & all stake holder relationships.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills on ensuring equipment effectiveness (Throughput,
Quality & Reliability). - Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills on continuous reduction & prevention of all waste.

TRAINEE PROCESS SHIFT FOREMAN – UG
Closing Date: 29 April 2022
Minimum Requirements:
- N6/ National Diploma in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- Completed Shukela Training Centre Sugar Manufacture Modules.
- A minimum of 2 years pan boiling experience.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a sugar processing environment.
- A thorough understanding of the process raw-house function is essential.
- Good communication and report writing skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, ability and/or desire to fit in with the USM culture.
- Be quality conscious and prepared to motivate his team to deliver superior quality work.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office & fluent with Excel)
Key Focus Areas:
- Adhere to the health, safety, and food safety standards.
- Attend training on FSSC 22000 system.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills on the sugar production process.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills to lead and manage shifts.
- Learn, develop and demonstrate skills to compile budgets from production plans and including, labour, raw materials, operator maintenance, cleaning and consumables budgets.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills on planning and management of plant shutdowns.
- Learn, develop and demonstrate skills to manage the operations of raw sugar manufacturing, from the mixed juice scales to the sugar dryers and loading of VHP.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills in ensuring optimum production rates at all times.
- Learn, develop, and demonstrate skills in ensuring good housekeeping.
- Identify improvement opportunities to meet Production targets.
