Limpopo police search for a security guard who allegedly shot and killed his colleague whilst on duty.

Meluzu Andison Khumalo shot and killed Matshembe Mphambanyene, and he took his gun, News24 reports.

According to the Provincial Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlalefa Mojapelo, the two guards were on duty, they were at the vehicle weigh bridge along the N11 on Thursday evening.

The following day, when other colleagues entered the guardroom, Mphambanyene was found lying dead and helpless, and his pistol and Khumalo were missing.

“During routine change of reliefs in the morning [Friday], the victim was allegedly found dead in the guardroom by other colleagues. His service pistol was missing and his colleague was nowhere to be found,” said Mojapelo.

Mojapelo said the following day, the suspect was seen around 4:00am roaming the streets of Sefihlo village when was supposed to be at work.

“It is believed that the suspect might have shot and killed his colleague, took his firearm and fled the scene,” Mojapelo said.

The police said the suspect fled to Gauteng following the killing of a 40-year-old Mphambanyene.

“It is also believed that he might have fled to Protea Glen in Soweto, Gauteng.”

Limpopo police are calling upon the Khumalo to go to the nearest police station, wherever he is, not to defeat the end of justice for the deceased as the police believe he’s useful and will be helpful to the murder investigations.

“Police are calling on security guard Meluzu Andison Khumalo, reportedly from Protea Glen, Soweto to avail himself at the nearest police station as it is believed he can be able to assist in the investigations,” said Mojapelo.
