Limpopo – Limpopo police played a major role in ensuring that residents of the province are more safe as they made 1 163 arrests within 8 days, from the 3rd to the 10th of January 2021.
According to police statement by Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, the arrests included offences such as murder, attempted murder, robberies, rape, sexual assault, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), common assault, common robbery, robbery with a weapon other than a fiream, sexual offences, and business and residential robberies.
Seabi said some arrests emanated from the failure to comply with lockdown regulations in place.
“Others were arrested for the failure to confine to their place of residence under the current lockdown restrictions, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to wear masks, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, public drinking and illegal dealing in liquor,” the police spokesperson elaborated.
Seabi said the operations that yielded myriads of arrests involved varying police units which included the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU), K9 Unit, Crime Investigations Detectives (CID), Public Order Policing Unit, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, and partnering with Traffic Police and the Limpopo Highway Patrol members.
Seabi pointed out that the most badgering arrests was the one made on the 3rd of January by the Limpopo Highway Patrol members.

“Police were on routine patrol at Solomondale location in the Capricorn district when they received information about a suspect who was dealing and in possession of drugs. Police rushed to the house where the suspect, 25, was arrested. Police discovered plastic bags of drugs, concealed inside the celling, which contained 14 sachets of crystal meth, 90 sachets of nyaope, 16 sachets of dagga and 190 wrapped packets of dagga with an estimated street value of R25 000,” Seabi elucidated.
