Limpopo police arrested almost 1 800 people during weekend operation

Polokwane – Limpopo police effected about 1,800 arrests during weekend operations province-wide.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, 1,796 people, aged interval 21 and 59, were arrested during the joint police operations.

According to News24, during the weekend operations in the province, police officers recovered 6 firearms, 5 suspected stolen vehicles, 407 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes, 60 dangerous weapons (including 33 knives), 178g of dagga, 177 dagga plants, cocaine and crystal meth.

It is reported that officers also confiscated 1 276 litres of liquor during the operations.

Ngoepe ssaid that around 1,860 fines emanated from the contravention of Road Traffic Act.

“In the Waterberg District, a 51-year-old man was arrested for car hijacking, murder and business robbery during an intelligence-driven joint operation that was conducted in the Tinmyne policing area,” Ngoepe said.

Police in the Waterburg district, Tinmyne police station received information regarding car hijacking in Tshwane.

“The Tinmyne police received information about a Ford Figo vehicle that was hijacked by three suspects in Tshwane. The suspects allegedly shot the driver, who later succumbed to his injuries and drove away with his motor vehicle,” he said.
