Lekwaa-Teemane Local Municipality mayor Mpho Pilane released on R1 000 bail for alleged bail and abduction of two minors.
His release had the North West ANC Women’s League infuriated and shocked as it wasn’t anticipated of him to be released whilst facing such horrible charges, involving minors.
On Monday, Pilane handed himself over to the police for an incident that allegedly took place on the 8th of December.
Following his arrest, the mayor appeared at the Delareyville Magistrate court to be tried and answer on the charges of rape, sexual assault and abduction where he was later. released on a R1 000 bail.
ANCWL said the court only favours those with money, they said they won’t be mute anymore as justice need to be done irrespective of our capacity.
“If you don’t have money the justice system will not be on your side. But we won’t keep quiet. The league is even more furious that the so-called leaders who commit such horrific criminal activities are supposed to be at the forefront of ensuring that every legislation piece to fight gender-based violence scourge is implemented without fail,” said the women.
The North West Police spokesperson Brigadier Sebata Mokgwaabone, says the two girls, aged 15 and 16, told the police that they went to a guesthouse with the accused on the 8th of December where one of them was raped and the other one, sexually assaulted. The mayor gave them alcohol so that they will get drunk, and commit the atrocity.
“Allegations are that the one was sexually assaulted and the other rape. They went home the following day and told their parents. Police were then informed. The two girls were taken to a doctor for examination.” said Mokwaabone.
Sexual assault and rape of minor girls are escalating as almost flee the conviction as myriads of them are politicians or their parents are.
