Earlier this morning, the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) – the Hawks officials raided the Buffalo City Metro (BCM).
BCM is in Eastern Cape with 50 wards, the Hawks raid follows the city awarding of food voucher tender worth R30 million which is believed to be earned illegally.
The Hawks went there all the way from Pretoria to confiscate documents and electronic equipment that contains information useful to the investigation.
The allegations are that the supply processes manipulated by the Supply Chain Manager, this involves eighteen (18) service providers in the procurement of food voucher for Covid-19.
Hawks spokesperson, Katlego Mogale told the media that the investigating unit raided the BCM offices as it was the only way possible to seize the documents relating to the matter without being tempered with.
“This morning, the serious corruption investigation in the Buffalo City Municipality conducted a search and seizure operation at the municipal offices where there are allegations of corruption of an estimated R30 million earmarked for Covid-19 food vouchers,” said Mogale.
