A 28-year-old man feigning to be a police captain is arrested in Seshego, Limpopo

  • The fake police captain extorted money from the public, he chose those who wanted to be enlisted in the SAPS.
  • The impostor claimed to have come from SAPS Human Resources Department.
  • The suspect was arrested on Friday at Seshego Park.

Polokwane – A 28-year-old male who’s been acting as a captain from the SAPS in 2019 is arrested for allegedly extorting money from people in the name of the SAPS, he used the police trainees posts, as he promised those who pay him that they will be considered for the intake thereof.

According to News24, the 28-year-old was arrested at a park in Seshego, Polokwane on Friday after several cases of fraud were opened by his victims.

The man said he’s from Polokwane Head Office from the Human Resources Department, those who want to join the SAPS must pay. He’ll appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The provincial police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, says “the imposter allegedly pretended to be a police captain from the provincial human resource management. He would then call unsuspecting people who wanted to be enlisted in the SAPS to deposit a certain amount of money into various accounts for medical reports.”

Police call upon people to report similar incidents to their nearest police station. And that police trainees enrollment requires no one to pay, being employed by the SAPS is free of charge.
