HoD for Health Dr Thokozani Mhlongo attended the launch for Covid-19 vaccine provincial rollout held by Mathabatha.
According to News24, Dr Mhlongo says not every leader will take the jab, this include Premier Mathabatha.
“Partly is that there are various bodies that these vaccines must go through. The vaccine has been tested in other countries, but in our country we have to adhere to a protocol. The study has been approved for healthcare workers in particular. However, authorities managed to make a special concession for the President [Cyril Ramaphosa], and the [National] Minister of Health and the MEC [Dr Phophi Ramathuba] to be vaccinated,” Mhlongo said.

Mhlongo says Mathabatha can’t be vaccinated as study permitted some leaders to take the jab, “we therefore don’t want to compromise the study by putting the Premier on the spot.”

MEC Ramathuba said, the vaccination for healthcare workers in both the public and private sectors is expected to last until the end of next week.
Since, the taking of the vaccine is compulsory, it is not known as to how many healthcare workers in the province, exercised their rights of not taking the jab.
