We are seeking a motivated and dedicated candidate attorney to join our legal team. As a candidate attorney, you will undergo a comprehensive training program designed to provide you with the necessary skills and experience to become a qualified attorney. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys, gaining practical experience across various areas of law, including but not limited to civil litigation, conveyancing, deceased estates family law matters and legal research. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent law graduate or legal professional looking to kickstart their legal career and develop their expertise in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research and analysis on various legal issues and precedents to support case preparation and strategy.
- Drafting Documents: Assist in drafting legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, agreements, opinions, and correspondence under the supervision of senior attorneys.
- Court Appearances: Attend court proceedings, hearings, and other legal proceedings to observe and assist senior attorneys in representing clients.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, counsel, and other parties involved in legal matters to gather information, provide updates, and assist in case management.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative tasks such as file management, document organization, and maintaining accurate records of case developments.
- Professional Development: Actively participate in training sessions, seminars, and workshops to enhance legal knowledge and skills.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with ethical standards, professional conduct rules, and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Attending Court: To appear on various matters as well as to serve and file legal documents.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree: Must have completed a Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognised institution.
- Candidate Attorney Contract: Must be eligible to enter into a candidate attorney contract as per the requirements of the legal practice council.
- Excellent Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply legal principles to practical situations.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in drafting legal documents and conducting legal research.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and establish positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Time Management: Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Professionalism: Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and areas of law as required.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases.
- Drivers License & Transport: Must have a valid driver’s license and own vehicle in order to attend Court and to the service and filing of documents.
