Job Purpose:
To assist in managing and overseeing all aspects on the farm with regards to producing avocado, macadamia and citrus fruit to the export and local markets. The key areas include irrigation, fertigation, pest control, weed control, fruit set, water management, harvesting and administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that pressure at pump stations is checked.
- Take soil, leave, and water samples. Oversee and supervise fertiliser application instructions.
- Ensure maintenance of equipment.
- Complete spraying instructions in conjunction with Production Manager.
- Complete application record.
- Assist in completion of spraying instructions. Ensure ongoing supervision of pruning process. Ensure availability of correct equipment Complete spraying instructions in conjunction with Compliance Manager
- Complete application record.
- Ensure correct soil moisture management. Bring soil & water status to Field Water Capacity (FWC).
- Ensure that tests are conducted to establish internal quality.
- Supervise and oversee harvesting instructions. Train new employees on proper procedures Adhere to all safety regulations.
- Complete and submit production data.
Job Requirements:
- Grade 12
- Diploma/Degree in Agriculture
- 1 year’s internship experience in agricultural environment at York
- Strong understanding/knowledge of the citrus, avocado and macadamia production
- Good communication skills
- Excellent agricultural and organisational skills and attention to details.
