The University of Pretoria (UP) invites South African unemployed graduates in possession of the below qualifications to apply for 8-month Research Assistant temporary position in the Veterinary Science Faculty.
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa
Closing Date: 30 April 2022
Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Assisting with admin related activities such as the collection, recording and capturing of research outputs for the department;
- Performing molecular techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR and qPCR;
- Training students on molecular techniques and cell culturing.
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc or Honours Degree in Biochemistry / Microbiology / Genetics / Molecular Sciences;
- One year’s working experience.
Competencies / Skills:
- Meticulous about detail, professional and a responsible person;
Appropriate language and communication skills;
Organising skills and a strong service orientation;
Physical mobility;
Ability to work under pressure;
Computer literacy;
Added Advantages and Preferences:
- Experience with in-vitro culturing on haemoparasites;
Experience with serology methods and, immunochemical procedures such as ELISA and RPAT;
Knowing how to prepare cell culture media;
Work experience in a diagnostic/research laboratory;
Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
