Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include; but are not limited to;-
Operational, Financial and Technical results:
- Carry out duties and responsibilities of a legally appointed MHS Act Reg. 2.17.1 Safety Officer for Enaex Africa operations on mine premises.
- Carry out duties and responsibilities required by any other relevant legal appointment in terms of MHS Act, OHS Act appointment and other OHS legislation (e.g. incident investigator, H&S committee member)
ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 maintenance. - Facilitate the identification of SHE hazards & risks, undesirable events, and the associated preventive and corrective controls.
- Enable the implementation of risk controls within Operations.
- Facilitate workplace risk assessments (e.g. baseline, continuous and issue based)
Identify safety improvement interventions. - Identify non-conformances, including near misses and reporting.
- Conduct onsite inspections, incident investigations and reporting.
- Facilitate SHE discussions-toolbox talks, SHE meetings and stand downs.
Governance and assurance:
- Participate in the respective SHE meetings and stakeholder forums.
- Monitor, review and effectiveness of SHE improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and respond proactively to hazards in the workplace.
- Lead workplace SHE inspections and coach Operations personnel.
- Identify incident and injury trends and recommend and monitor mitigating control measures.
- Participate in the roll out and maintenance of the SHE Improvement Plans.
- Maintain change management and communication initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant 3-year qualification in the SHE/chemical/explosives industry – National Diploma (Non-Negotiable)
- COMSOC 1, COMSOC 2 (Wish)
- ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Implementation and Auditing courses (Wish)
- Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience, preferably in mining, or chemicals and/or explosives industry.
- The candidate must be medical fit to work on mines (underground and/or opencast).
- Experience working with MS Office package like MS Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel.
- Preference will be given to candidates residing in the North West.
- Blasting Certificate – Advantageous.
- A drivers License (Must).
