The purpose of the internship programme is to offer unemployed university graduates (diploma/degree) with no relevant work experience the opportunity to obtain practical workplace exposure and experience in their specified disciplines. This opportunity forms part of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI)-Higher Education Employment Initiative (HEEI), which forms part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus (PES), seeking to mitigate the devastating economic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Youth between the ages of 18 and 35, who are currently unemployed, not studying full time, nor receiving any form of a government grant (including NSFAS) and young people living with disability and women, are eligible and encouraged to apply for this enriching experience. Applicants in a debt repayment agreement for fees owed to the university may also apply. This opportunity is only available to South African Citizens and permanent residents).

Library and Information Services Interns x 4
Location: Bloemfontein Campus and South Campus
Closing Date: 25 May 2022
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide first-line support for ICT-related queries to library staff via telephone, email, or face-to-face.
- Establish a good working relationship with staff, students, professionals, and stakeholders.
- Resolve computer-related issues and provide excellent customer service to both staff, students, and researchers.
- Work continuously on allocated operational tasks until completion.
- Test and evaluate new technology in the library.
- Create and maintain user and administrative guides.
- Transfer digital tools and library systems knowledge to the staff and students through virtual training, videos, and webinars.
- Responsible for access management of web applications and library information systems (e.g., Sierra)
- Create webpage and maintain the library website, Libguides and Library Intranet.
- Install and configure computer systems and solve technical and application problems.
- Allocate and configure new and current ICT equipment.
- Keep record of all IT equipment present in the client computing environment.
- Provide leadership and oversight to our growing Makerspace program.
- Ensure processes are maintained to safeguard against data loss and to provide business confidence and assurance in data integrity.
- Participate in a range of activities and projects in for Library ICT, Digital Scholarship Center and Makerspace.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications on NQF level 7 in Information Communication and Technology or (Degree in Library and Information Science on NQF Level 7 plus Postgraduate Diploma on NQF Level 8 in Computer Science).
- Graduates between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Applicant must not be studying full time.
- If studying, classes should be after hours.
- Applicant must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Intern
Location: Bloemfontein Campus
Closing Date: 27 May 2022
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive visitors, including preparation of meeting rooms and beverages.
- General reception duties.
- Capture collected data and safeguard its confidentiality.
- Assist directors, financial officer and lab manager where necessary.
- Obtain quotations when necessary.
- Help with sample preparation and collection.
- Collect (extract) data from published worldwide data for review manuscripts.
- Attend project meetings and safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of captured datasets.
Requirements:
- A Higher Certificate, Diploma, National Diploma, Degree or Postgraduate degree
- Graduates between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Not studying full time, classes preferably after hours.
- Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
Recommendations:
- A BSc qualification will serve as an advantage.
The following criteria apply to the selection of candidates:
- Have not participated in any learnership / internship programme.
- Willing to sign a learnership / internship agreement with the UFS.
- Candidate must be available for a period of six (6) months, with a possible extension to one (1) year.
