The internship is suited for someone who has completed a degree qualification in Journalism. The aim of the internship is to address the shortage of skilled financial writers who understands different aspects of central banking communication which in turn will contribute to journalism in the country.
Interns are given an opportunity to acquire competencies prescribed by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Academy, reinforce prior academic education, and develop technical skills in journalism, as well as business acumen and interpersonal skills.
Interns will perform various administrative and content development tasks to support the Bank’s Communications strategy. Responsibilities include working closely with the Communications team to creatively write and review articles on various topics and subject matter for the Bank.
Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
Gather, corroborate and interpret data
- Learn stakeholder interview skills
- Use findings to construct a well-written article
- Retain awareness of the readers’ point of view
- Obtain first-hand information by being present in happenings
- Receive assignments or investigate news leads/tips
- Comply with the moral code of the profession
- Maintain notes and audio recordings
- Keep abreast of developments by attending events
Job Requirements:
To be considered for the internship, candidates must;-
- Be in a final year of a Journalism degree or hold a post-graduate degree in the field.
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, digital editing, web search, databases)
- Excellent communication and networking skills along with an aptitude in extracting information
Additional requirements include:
- be a South African citizen between the age of 21 and 35;
- strong analytical skills;
- be curious, self-motivated and innovative;
- strong communication skills (Verbal, written & Interpersonal);
