Purpose:
The Road Accident Fund is committed to youth skills development by providing graduates with an opportunity to gain work experience. The Internship Program will run for a period of Eighteen months (18).
The following Internship Opportunities are open for applications:
Litigation & Mediation Interns x 6
Location: East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Interns will be given practical workplace structured training and on the job training and development, this will be combined with the theoretical training already acquired regarding Delictual Law, Civil Procedure, Law of Evidence.
- Practice Management
- Service and filing of documentation at Court
- Attendance at Pre-Trial Conferences and compilation of Pre-Trial Minutes
- General administration work
- Drafting of correspondence, pleadings, notices, affidavits and applications
- Observation of and assistance for State Attorneys at Court
- Service and filing of notices
- Judgment monitoring and case outcomes reporting
- Filing Bills of costs upon receipt as well as assistance in opposing taxations
- General administrative work on LMS
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law
Medical Management Interns x 1
Location: East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Medical Management – undertakings, payment of caregivers, treatment plans, serious injury assessments, injury specific undertakings, Bill Review of Past Medical Expenses and Future Medical expenses.
- General office administration, filing and data capturing related to the claim’s administration process.

Forensics Interns x 1
Location: East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Training
- Collection and presentation of evidence

- Forensics Accounting

Technology and Digital Interns x 1
Location: East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Manage IT incidents and requests (incidents and requests).
- Provide daily operations support and maintenance for network and telephone infrastructure (1st line support).
- Maintain and update a register of all IT assets.
- Manage VC requests.
- Monthly and weekly reports on system availability.
- Supervise preventative maintenance of printers.
- Establish connection and access to printers for all users.
- Conduct troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades, and other activities required for efficient working of computer systems.
- Setup new users and configure new equipment.
- Undertake maintenance and repairs on damaged and repairable hardware.
- Provide software and hardware configuration according to business requirements.
- Ensure IT Service availability and continuity.
- Provide ICT support for RAF road shows and CSC’s.

Facilities Management Interns x 1

Work based exposure may include the following:
- Maintain Inventory Control.
- Provide Asset Management.
- Provide Fleet Management.

- Policies and Procedures.
- Provide space and Parking Management.
- Contract administration.
- Accounts payment on SAP.
- Monthly report.
- Provide support on Facilities Management project undertakings.
- Administer Insurance claims on all RAF property.

Offer Management Interns x 10
Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Quality Assure type of offer made
- Identify and correct any defects in consultation with the originator of the offer
- Communicate approved offer
- Assess the basis of the rejected offer
- Document and upload offers on the system
- Deal with/and respond to correspondence
- Report on emerging risks
- Provide ad hoc reports on process improvement initiatives
- Receiving complaints and liaise with relevant stakeholders
- Follow up and feedback to all stakeholders to keep them updated on status of a query
- Respond to queries within the predefined turnaround times

Adjudication Interns x 8
Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
Funeral adjudication
- Apply funeral benefit adjudication rules to determine quantum
- Generate funeral product offer using relevant offer template.
Past medical adjudication
- Receive and record medical management bill review assessment outcome.
- Check substantial compliance with RAF Act.
Future medical adjudication
- Check and activate pre defined injury specific undertaking from accident information centre.
- Confirm and record Medical management recommendations.
General damages adjudication
- Review the claim against the general damages adjudication standards.
- Produce documents, briefing papers, reports and presentations.
Loss of earning adjudication
- Review the claim against the loss of earnings adjudication standards.
- Adjucate the LOE product claim in line with the approved policy/SOP.
Loss of support adjudication
- Review the claim against the loss of support adjudication standards
- Deal with/and respond to correspondence.
Qualifications:
- National Diploma/ B Degree in related qualification
Human Capital Interns x 2
Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Attending to recruitment processes when requested to assist.
- Assisting with collating quarterly reviews and compiling spread sheet
- Going through return to work forms and identify trends for correction with employee concerned via their manager
- Adhoc tasks such as photocopying, spread sheets etc.
- Updating and maintaining the filing systems on a daily basis, archiving files as appropriate, e.g. disciplinary/grievance records and training records
- Coordinating training to ensure growth and development of employees;
- Booking employees for their approved external training and liaising with service providers;
- Administer and support disciplinary matters
- Receiving complaints and liaise with relevant stakeholders;
- Attending CCMA cases with management representative;
- Taking minutes during the meetings e.g. EE committee meeting;
- Creating purchase requisitions for the trainings;
- Capturing of the Workplace Skills Plan;

State Attorney Interns x 10
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng (x4); Mafikeng, North West (x2); Nelspruit, Mpumalanga (x2) & Polokwane, Limpopo (x2) – South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Interns will be given practical workplace structured training and on the job training and development, this will be combined with the theoretical training already acquired.
- Administration work.
- Drafting of correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, notices, applications.
- Practical Application of court rules in practice;
- Observation of, and assistance given to, State Attorneys when appearing in Court;
- Support State Attorney in litigation and dispute resolution;
- Filing notices;
- Service of documents and Notices to Plaintiff Attorneys.
- Judgement monitoring and case outcomes reporting;
- Attendance of and upskilling with continuous learning professional development programs (i.e. LEAD and LexisNexis);
- Filing Bills of Costs upon receipt.
- Provide support to oppose Taxations.
- Preparations for appearance and appear before the Taxing Master.
- Filing of outcomes and uploading on LMS.

Various Claims Management Products Interns x 11
Location: East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Claims Adjudication – Supplier claims, unrepresented and represented claims and death benefit claims processing.
- Onboarding – Customer Service Centre, Registration of new claims and Verification and Validation of new claims.
- Merits – Merits investigation and assessment
- Legal Administration – Trial, summons, and writs management
- Offer Management – Legal costs, payments, and file closure.
- External Stakeholder engagement (e.g., Consulting with families of claimants, service providers, direct claimants etc.)
- General office administration, filing and data capturing related to the claim’s administration process.

Corporate Communication Interns x 1
Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Assist with facilitation and coordination of all aspects of Regional Marketing and the Communications function.
- Implement the regional marketing and promotional strategy
- Assist with the facilitation and coordination of stakeholder engagements.
- Feedback and reporting.
- Assist with arrangements for RAF on the Road, mobilization, awareness campaigns and related marketing events.

Claims Interns x 30
Location: Menlo Park, Gauteng, South Africa
Work based exposure may include any of the following:
- Onboarding – Customer Experience Centre, Registration of new claims and Verification and Validation of new claims.
- Adjudication – Quantify benefits and make appropriate offers. Recommend a litigation strategy and actions to bring matter to finality.
- Legal Administration – Defending Summons and managing Notice of Set Downs.
- Offer Management – Legal cost, payments and file closure
- Merits – Assess nature of accident, investigate RAF liability and check capacity of claimant.
- General office administration, filing and data capturing related to the claims administration process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law
EWS Intern
Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Work based exposure may include the following:
- Coordination of employee wellness programs
- Employee Wellness data collection and analysis
- Initiating and project managing various wellness campaigns
- Administration support for the Office of the Employee Wellness and EWS Specialist across the RAF
- Administration liaison with external employee wellness service providers contracted to RAF
Qualifications:

Facilities Intern x 1
