Job Title: Intern Research Psychologist X2 (12 Months Fixed Term Contract)

Job Type: Graduate Internship

Location: Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa

PHRU is seeking dynamic and analytical individuals with a keen curiosity for disentangling and understanding public health problems through a bio-psychosocial lense.

We require a critical thinker to join our multi-disciplinary environment where young graduates are exposed to diverse research experiences – both qualitative and quantitative, afforded the opportunity to build their research careers in an established research unit that engages with key public health problems in South Africa and globally.

Interns will work with a Senior Research team and be supervised by an HPCSA registered Research Psychologist. This is an ideal position for candidates interested in registering with the HPCSA as a Research Psychologist.

Main Purpose of the Job:

Conduct biopsychosocial research activities, including study design and development, implementation, and information dissemination.

Key Performance Areas:

Assist with grant writing and submission.
Assist with study design, development, and implementation.
Literature reviews.
Psychometric assessments.
Development of study tools (questionnaires, SOPs, interview guides) and databases.
Development and facilitation of training workshops.
Data collection, cleaning, and analysis.
Research study administration activities.
Facilitate and participate in project meetings.
Oversee ethical and regulatory requirements and maintain regulatory records.
Information dissemination through manuscript writing and conference presentations.
Stakeholder engagement.
Scheduling of study activities.
Assist with study-related tasks as needed.
Health economics data collection.
Time in motion assessments.

Required Minimum Education and Training:

Master’s Degree in;-
- Research Psychology
- Or equivalent qualification

At least some of these skills:

Computer skills using MS Excel MS Access and MS Word.
Statistical software (STATA or SPSS or R or ATLAS.ti (or equivalent)).
A valid driver’s license.

Required minimum work experience:

This is an internship post for master’s graduates to grow their skills.
