National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA), invites South African Unemployed Graduates to apply for a 12 month Graduate / Internship Programme 2022 / 2023.

The following Internship Opportunities are open for applications:
Internship Safety, Health, Enviroment & Quality (SHEQ) X1
Purpose of the Position:
To receive training within SHEQ Department in ensuring the maintenance of safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) systems in line with the existing NMISA Total Quality Management System.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Three-year tertiary qualification in the field of Safety Management /Quality Management or related field
- Postgraduate qualification will be added advantage
- Basic knowledge of EHS legislation
- Basic Knowledge of Management System standards, particularly ISO 14001, ISO 9001,
ISO 45001, and ISO/IEC 17025. - Computer Literate and proficient with MS Office software packages
- Attention to detail, good communication and organisational skills.
- Good administrative skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist NMISA laboratories with SHEQ-related activities.
- Assist with SHEQ management system documentation, document control and record keeping.
- Assist with conducting hazard/aspects identification and risk/impact assessment.
- Assist with management of operational controls associated with hazard, aspect, impact, and risk identified.
Internship Electronics
Purpose of the Position:
To assist with performance of maintenance, repairs and fault finding on all electronic equipments in laboratories and provide support to the assistant electronic technician. Assist with design circuits on appropriate software and operation on PCB machine. The incumbent will also be expected to assist technical support within the Applied Metrology Division.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Three-year tertiary qualification in the field of (Electronics) or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification will be added advantage
- Appropriate qualification or education practical experience
- Knowledge of a wide variety of materials and electronic components
- Up to date with leading edge electronic components and industrial equipment
- Automation of systems using programming and electronic design
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist in Fault finding in electronic circuits
- Assist with Repair of electronic circuits
- Assist with system design and automation on project
- Assist with the design and documentation of electronic products
- Assist with operation of the PCB machine in the workshop
- Assist with workshop chores (e.g. stock taking, cleaning etc.)
- Assist in maintenance and cleaning of workshop machines
- Assist with purchasing and collecting
- Be a team player
- Comply with the requirements of the NMISA TQMS to ensure process consistency and effectiveness
Internship Dosimetry X2
Purpose of the Position:
To receive training within the Dosimetry Standards section on development and maintenance of measurement standards, and dissemination thereof. To provide support to the dosimetry audit and perform duties as required by the section.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
- BSc Honours in Physics or equivalent qualification
- Mathematical and statistical knowledge.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office.
- Knowledge of Radiation Physics (dosimetry) will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in an accredited laboratory for the period of their training, the incumbent will comply with NMISA’s policies and procedures and perform all duties in line with the Total Quality Management System.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of dosimetry measurement standards; and dissemination thereof.
- The incumbent will assist in generating, validating, and reviewing procedures for the performance of measurements in field of dosimetry as well as maintain detailed records of equipment and measurement results generated during the course of the study.
- Assist in administrative duties including purchasing of laboratory consumables
- Initiate and follow up on the timely procurement of any equipment, instruments, consumables or other expenses required to execute the duties.
Internship Mechanical X1
Purpose of the Position:
The internship programme offers graduates an opportunity to enhance their skills and gain meaningful workplace experience to complement their studies. The candidate will work alongside engineers and artisans to design and/or machine and/or manufacture mechanical components/parts or artefacts for NMISA to assist the laboratories in fulfilling their functions and to support the development of measuring instruments.
Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Three-year tertiary qualification in the field of Mechanical engineering
- Postgraduate degree will be an added advantage
Major Responsibilities:
- Work in a mechanical workshop for the period of their training, the incumbent will comply with NMISA’s policies and procedures and perform all duties in line with the Total Quality Management System.
- Assist with milling machine work to manufacture components as per drawings supplied.
- Assist with turning including screw cutting and using the 4-jaw chuck.
- Assist with all bench fitting work to accurately assemble components as per engineering drawings.
- Assist in maintaining clean and tidy work areas.
- Maintain and clean workshop machines
- Assist with workshop administrative duties.
- Assist with mechanical designs.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations.
