Job Description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the following temporary position in the administration of the Electoral Commission, a state institution established by Chapter 9 of the Constitution.
Key Performance Areas:
- Assist with the conceptualisation of the YDP and relevant research aimed at increasing participation in election processes.
- Assist in the development of the YDP through identification of appropriate methodologies, approaches and media to reach youth across the provinces.
- Assist with implementation of the YDP as well as other CDE initiatives in the province.
- Assist staff with co-coordinating communication plans, that is, both internal and external; maintaining liaison with all major communications stakeholders including the print and electronic media, assist with the managing the publicity plans of the province, promoting the internal publication tools that are operating in the province, monitoring progress in the communications area, liaising with all stakeholders relevant for elections, developing partnerships with stakeholders within Civic and Democracy Education (CDE).
General Administrative Support Services:
- Draft written proposals, record minutes, write reports, handle routine enquiries, make photocopies, send and receive correspondence, compile, distribute documents/packages to various stakeholders as required.
- Keep and maintain the filing system for the office.
- Keep and maintain incoming and outgoing correspondence of the component and coordinate meetings.
- Assist with selected duties so as to obtain exposure to Corporate Services and Electoral Operations, etc.
Basic Requirements:
To qualify for IEC Political Science Internship, you must have the following;
- Applicants must be in possession a relevant Graduate qualification (for example Political Science, Media studies).
- A post-graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
- The candidate must also be in possession of valid driver’s license.
The candidate must possess good communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, as well as research skills. He/ she must be computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office and possess the following attributes: ability to work under pressure; be prepared to work long hours; travel extensively; be pro-active; decisive; confident and be service driven. Experience in involvement in youth issues will be an added advantage.
Applicants must not have been an office bearer in any political party (or its affiliates and structures) and/ or high party political profile in the last 5 years. Applications must be accompanied by a recent, updated comprehensive curriculum vitae as well as certified copies of all qualifications and identity documents.. Nota Bene: Applicants must be 35 years of age or below and must not have been an intern or permanently employed before to qualify for this internship.
