The Evaluation for Development team currently consists of 15 team members, located in South Africa, Kenya and the UK. We work across Sub-Saharan Africa and other emerging economies. We break down the allure of one-size-fits-all strategies by demonstrating the value that context-appropriate African-led solutions can unlock. We apply this approach across everything we do – from strategy development, to programme design and implementation, to research and evaluation.
Our work cuts across sectors, but our core area of expertise is related to unlocking value in Africa by identifying market-based solutions to enable more inclusive economic growth, including job creation and enterprise development.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
Genesis’s E4D team is a trusted provider of monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) services we combine our deeply rooted understanding of the African context with our extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation (M&E) methods to assess progress, measure value creation, and facilitate internal and external learning. We provide three service lines:
- Programme evaluation and impact evaluation
- Monitoring and results management (MRM) systems design
- Integrated MEL partnerships
Economic Opportunity
In pursuit of expanded and more inclusive economic opportunities, we seek solutions that improve market functioning, enable innovation and technological progress and promote investment. We use expert economic analysis, laser-focused problem-solving techniques and intersectional knowledge and experience to uncover the root causes of market failure. We work with our clients and partners to jointly discover and develop market-based solutions that enabled expanded and more inclusive economic opportunities.
Our team is seeking to recruit and develop exceptional talent in monitoring, evaluation, economic analysis, and problem solving. Graduates looking to explore Genesis on a short-term basis – for instance before their Masters degree or during a longer holiday – should apply for the Intern roles.
These roles can be undertaken from any of our offices and, if necessary, from home, for around 6 – 24 weeks.
Responsibilities:
What you will do
You will work with Genesis colleagues in consulting teams to help our clients unlock and realise value. In each project, you will help:
- assess and structure the problem to be solved;
- collect, organise, interpret, and analyse data and information;
- test and refine hypotheses;
- and draft and communicate conclusions and recommendations, sometimes directly to the client.
In some cases, you may be asked to travel to do this, with colleagues.
At present, we are looking particularly for people with an interest in work on:
- Private-sector led skills development initiatives, job creation interventions, and enterprise development programmes.
- Green economy; including climate change, environmental management, and agriculture.

- or similar
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams in changing environments
- Ability to solve problems through clear thinking, and strong analytical skills, including attention to detail
- Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills in English
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Excel
Other desirable skills and competencies include:
- Proficiency in other statistical packages, such as STATA
- Proficiency with data visualisation, presentation or design software
- Languages relevant to Genesis’ geographies
