Intern – Business Development Unit (Group Services Practice)
The Business Development Intern will get full exposure toGenesis and the global market, working closely with Genesis colleagues across all specialist practice areas. The person will lead the identification and assessment of relevant opportunities and provide strategic advice on the risks and viability of these opportunities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Opportunity identification
- Set up, track, and manage alerts on key platforms
- Scan public sector portals; Bilateral and Multilateral institutions; other donor platforms and print media, post-forecast update responses
- Capture information gathered internally on the Genesis Pipeline Management system
- Communicate pipeline opportunities with the Practice areas and relevant functional teams
B. Pipeline forecasting
- Identify and track opportunities through business forecasts and build up an opportunity pipeline in line with Genesis’s strategy and approach
C. Monitor trends and provide analysis
- Monitor and analyse development trends by target geography and clients as well as competitive analysis to inform Genesis’ strategic positioning
Other areas of support may include: supporting internal learning on pipeline management; providing analysis on Genesis bidding trends; support Genesis firm to correctly use the Genesis Pipeline Management system.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Desire to start a career in consultancy, working across Africa and globally to unlock value
- An undergraduate qualification in relevant subject matter areas including Development Studies, Social Development, PPE, International Relations, Political Science, Social Science, and International Affairs, as minimum qualifications
- Exceptional research skills, including the ability to find answers by studying materials and sources available; and gather information, analyse, interpret and review it before providing a solution
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks while working in an organised and timely manner to meet deadlines
- Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to quickly examine information in details and synthesize messages for a broad audience
- Demonstrated proactiveness and capacity to take initiatives
Advantageous:
- An Honours degree in either one of the abovementioned qualifications
- Knowledge of Google Suite
Intern – Data Analyst
Centre of Digital Excellence (C0DE)
The Centre of Digital Excellence (C0DE) team focuses on supporting the digital transformation of sub-Saharan Africa. We are focused on technology innovation and the opportunities it provides for drastically improving the development potential of African nations. We do this through two types of projects; problem solving around the economic and social opportunities and risks that digital technology can provide to developing markets, and supporting our clients through data-driven decision making.
The C0DE team is entrepreneurial and enjoys bringing innovation into the economic strategy and implementation projects that are conducted across the firm. We work across the company and liaise with other practice areas to support their project delivery.
Role Description:
We are looking for a dynamic individual to support with our digital solutions and big data requirements. The role will be as an intern.
C0DE works with exciting data that is people rich – we are tasked with understanding population groups, their behaviours, how to change those behaviours, and the impact this will have through time. We work with a combination of novel data sources collected through targeted surveys or GIS, openly available data sources, and enterprise data from clients in sectors such as financial services and FMCG.
This individual will be a primary resource on our projects that require:
- Descriptive, diagnostic and predictive data analysis
- Data visualization and story-telling
- Database design and management
- Process automation and scripting
- Designing digital data collection tools using online forms or chatbots
This individual will be technology-minded and have a passion for data and the advancement of economic development in Africa.
- Strong academic background – completed or undertaking a post-graduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a similar degree.
The C0DE team is interested in candidates that possess a variety of skills in computer science. We’d like to hear from candidates who have experience or training in any of the following. Please highlight in your application your level of proficiency and any past experience.
- Drawing actionable insights from data using statistical and database programmes such as Python, R, or SQL
- Automating processes and workflows
- Visualizing data using Power BI, Tableau or Google Data Studio.
- Developing forecasts and using time-series data
- Using large datasets, survey data and architecting relational databases
- Using Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
- Analysing data using GIS software such as QGIS
