The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) has the following Internship opportunities available for a period NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months.

An internship programme is an intervention by the City of Johannesburg to address the growing demand by a tertiary institution for students to undergo on-the-job exposure, as a pre-requisite to acquire an academic qualification or as a requirement after the acquisition of academic qualification to obtain experiential training. The City is committed to providing work-based training for students.

  • This internship opportunity is applicable to youth in the Johannesburg communities, who qualifies for this internship and have never participated in an internship programme before.
  • This Vacancy is open to all qualifying YOUTH in the Johannesburg Community for a period not exceeding 18 months

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/NQF level 4 plus N6 / Diploma or Degree in relevant field
  • Youth between 18 – 35 years would be considered;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Must be able to work extended hours as and when required;

Multi Media & Communication Officer Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute project planning process to inform the business unit business planning process.
  • Execute process optimization and efficiency.
  • Perform daily media monitoring and analysis in order to respond intelligently and rapidly to issues that affect the Minority Parties Caucus and department.
  • Execute activities associated with management and control of the assets and resources.
  • Execute specific activities to ensure effective governance and risk management.
  • Execute specific activities to ensure effective Stakeholder Relations and Communication.
  • Record and verify the implementation of Council Resolutions emanating from Committee recommendations.

Qualifications: Diploma or Degree OR currently Enrolled as a student in the following field or related;-

Citizen’s Engagement Coordinator Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and coordinate the approved strategic plan and programs for public participation and community outreach.
  • Ensure that related programmes are accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Create opportunities for citizens to become active participants.
  • Identify community needs and aspirations, assist in facilitating interventions.
  • Create a conducive environment for special interest groups like women, youth, PWDs and elderly to be engaged. Stakeholder Database Management through development and updating.
  • Manage public involvement in the by-law and policy development review making processes.
  • Ensure that logistical arrangements are done to enable public participation in Council events and programmes

Administration Officer Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver guidance to the Speaker of Council, particularly on party political aspects and in the context of the government’s overall aims and objectives, on new policy proposals and policy development and implementation within the legislative arm. Proactively monitor the implementation of the key legislated functions of the office of the Speaker.
  • Develop compliance organisational strategies by contributing information, analysis and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction.
  • Engage with potential stakeholders to facilitate collaboration within the City of Johannesburg. Determine financial compliance implications of strategic initiatives to ensure financial compliance objectives are achieved;

Policy, Planning & Research Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute towards the producing/undertaking of quality research and research reports in the Directorate.
  • Assist with policy development processes in the Directorate.
  • Support the coordination of forums, stakeholder engagements and public participation processes.
  • Assist with administrative duties to ensure effective administrative support for the smooth operations within the Directorate.

Finance Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Control and coordinate the implementation of specific procedures systems and controls Asset Management associated with functional areas embodied in the Community Development department.
  • Handle all Supply Chain Management processes associated with COJ policies and procedures.
  • Manage and control specific Budgeting, Expenditure, and accounting procedures associated with Financial reporting.

Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in;-

  • Finance
  • Or equivalent

Sports and Recreation Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in events management and activities at the sports facility.
  • Assist Managers / Office in dealing with follow-ups on community requests and queries.
  • Assist in the initiation of programmes and sport-related activities.
  • Marketing and Social Media Communication Liaison. Conduct research on innovative and new trends in Sports & recreation.

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma in Sports and Recreation

Management Support Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compilation and submission of reports. Assist in the administration work for Management Support.
  • Liaison with relevant stakeholders (Petitions, Queries and escalations).
  • Conduct and coordinate Performance Management Training and related queries

Qualifications: N6 / Certificate / Diploma / Degree in;-

Infrastructure Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interact with Transport Finance, Project Managers and Implementing Agents.
  • Assist in the administration work for record-keeping.
  • Submit administrative documents for reporting and tracking expenditure

Qualifications: N6 / Diploma or Degree in;-

  • Finance

Public Housing Interns

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Render administrative and support services to the Monitoring and Evaluation unit of the Human Settlements Department.
  • Requisition of assets and stationary for the Monitoring and Evaluation unit.
  • Transporting by hand of restricted performance information documents to the relevant Departments within the City.

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma in Public Administration/Business Administration/Project Management, or
  • N6 in Office Administration (candidate needed in-service training towards completion of his/her studies), or
  • Built Environment qualification or N6 or Diploma or Degree

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to function in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with the group.
  • Coordination and problem-solving skills and Batho Pele Principles.
