The role will drive continuous improvements to existing manufacturing processes working directly with the line crews daily. The Production Engineer also acts as the technical trainer for line teams and provides coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of countermeasures. Success requires an end to end understanding of the Processing or Packaging process. The role also acts as an 2IC to Production Manager.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Actively participate in factory improvement projects and makes proposals to optimise technological processes.
- Identify root causes to departmental problems (OE, Technical downtime, materials consumption variances, quality incidents, etc.), propose and implement appropriate actions.
- Performs or is involved with various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation and service, etc.
- Analyse waste using loss trees/streams and propose technical improvement solutions to eliminate them.
- Involved in FAT/PAT/SAT (Factory, Performance, Site Acceptance Testing) for projects and ensures implementation of new equipment.
- Identify and lead reduction of non-value-adding activities.
- Establish and maintain appropriate KPI’s by monitoring actual conditions vs. target, as well as to determine and measure the impact of implemented improvements
- Develop training programmes for technical area and delivers training sessions to the teams where necessary.
- Participates in developing maintenance plans and annual reviews of the maintenance packages.
- Develops and updates technical equipment procedures.
- Maintain contact with suppliers of technical equipment
- Act as the point of contact for non-day to day issues and activities with other production support departments such as R&I, Processing, Quality, Safety, Raw Materials & Finished Goods Warehouses
- Create Technical Standards to ensure process stability on the line
- Train line teams on technical standards and restoration of basic conditions
- Identify and extend good practice to other lines
- Visualize clearly what the ideal production system
- Clearly understand operating principles and establish correct operating standards
Qualifications:
- BSc or BTech qualified in;-
- Mechanical Engineering,
- Electrical Engineering,
- Mechatronic Engineering or
- Industrial Engineering
- Preference will be given to post-graduate qualification in the above fields.
