About the Company
The Gledhow Sugar Company (Pty) Ltd was founded on the 10th September 2009 on the acquisition of the Gledhow Sugar Mill at Stanger, KwaZulu Natal, by a consortium of four shareholders:
- Ushukela Milling (Pty) Ltd (34.9%)
- Illovo Sugar Limited (30%)
- The Gledhow Growers’ Share Trust (25.1%)
- Sappi (10%)
The Gledhow Sugar mill has a long history of supplying the Southern African market, having first commenced operation at the current site in 1912.
The original owners of the mill were CG Smith, F Reynolds, W Pearce and the Crookes brothers – pioneers of the South African sugar industry. Later, Illovo Sugar Limited took ownership,and between 2004 and 2009 Ushukela Milling. In 2009 the shareholding was expanded to include the current shareholders.
Gledhow Sugar is looking for motivated, committed and enthusiastic young persons to fill the following apprentices:
- 1 x Instrumentation
- 1 x Electrical
- 1 x Boilermaker
- 1 x Turner
Interested candidates must fit / meet the following minimum criteria / requirements:
- Completed N2
- Matric with a minimum C average in Maths & Science
- Must be unemployed mid not enrolled on an) other learnership / apprenticeship / work experience programme
- Good communication skills Must be a team player with a good attitude and willingness to learn
- Must be physically fit
