Muvhango Actress Vho Masindi graduates for Ph.D

65-year-old actress Regina Nesengani known as Vho Masindi on SABC2’s soapie Muvhango, earns Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D).
The Actress recently received her Ph.D from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Vho Masindi’s thesis placed a major focus on gender-based violence (GBV) saying her thesis emanate from the voice-overs, books she read and from male writers
Yesterday, her boss, the soapie producer and creator Duma Ndlovu took to social media heartfelt words of gratitude to congratulate the actress for such a huge achievement.
“Regina Nesengani, Vho Masindi in Muvhango, was last week conferred with a Ph.D Degree by UNISA, her doctoral thesis was based on gender-based violence and it was written in her narrative TshiVenda language. Dr.Nesengani ladies and gentlemen!” wrote Mr Ndlovu, Muvhango creator.
Ndlovu said they will be throwing a congratulatory party for Regina who refuses being referred to as Dr. on Tuesday, the 9th day of December.
Vho Masindi told Sowetan that she was inspired by a 70-year-old Eastern Cape Ph.D candidate lady who was interviewed on SAFM back on her way from the funeral, and the lady’s age appealed to her that age’s just a number as a lot can be done irrespective of how old one is. At that time, she was busy with the dissertation of her Master’s Degree of which the interview inspired her to submit a proposal for Ph.D in 2015 which was accepted.
She said that through her Ph.D, she wanted to inspire her grandchildren and young people in general.
In her interview with Sowetan, she said; “I feel happy to have achieved this but I want to transfer that happiness in inspiring the whole country. I want young people to ask themselves a question: if I achieve a Ph.D at 65, what is holding them back? Further, I did my Ph.D in Venda because I wanted to encourage people to love and be proud of their ethnic languages.”
Despite qualifying to venture a lecturing journey at any institution of her choice, the star and doctoral degree graduate said that she’s not even thinking of quitting her acting career as what she’s doing is a gift from God.
“I will continue acting, even my Ph.D was also inspired by my acting career. I will continue doing different researches while acting on Muvhango. Why should I run around? God gave me this talent to use it to survive,” said Dr. Nesengani.
Nesengani isn’t only in possession of Ph.D and its relatives, she also have an Honours Degree in Drama, Diplomas in Remedial Education, ABET Education and Theology.
